Édouard DETAILLE (Paris, 1848 - 1912). Soldier of the second Hussar in the 1872 regulations. Watercolour and gouache signed, dated 1872 and dedicated "To General Charlemagne Souvenir de St-Germain-en-Laye" in the lower left corner (insolation). Height 18.5 cm - Width: 14 cm (at sight) The "General Charlemagne" born in Paris on July 9, 1819. He became : - Cuirassier in the 6th regiment in November 1839. - Lieutenant-colonel in the 7th hussars in February 1862, then in the 2nd spahis in September 1863. - Colonel of the 8th hussars on November 2nd 1867. - Brigadier General in October 1870. He took part in the bloody week in the third army corps under the orders of Barail, first division, first at the head of the first brigade.
