French school of the XIXth century. Henri... - Lot 216 - Le Floc'h
French school of the XIXth century. Henri IV in full length. Maximilien de Rosny, duc de Sully, first Minister of Henri IV. Pair of graphite drawings with oval view (russets). Height. 24 and 24,5 cm - Width : 14,5 cm On the back of one of the drawings it is possible to read : " This drawing representing Henry IV as well as the one representing M. le Duc de Sully his 1st Minister were given to me (sic) in 1768 at the time of my arrival in Paris by J.B. Le Prince, 1st Painter of the Empress of Russia, who was from Metz and was my godfather. These two drawings perfectly preserved although on a common sheet of paper, were found in the Cartons of Marie de Médicis Widow of Henry IV who died in Collogue on July 3rd 1642. We are convinced that they are from 1604 by Augustin Carracci, famous Painter and Engraver of Bologna, who was then in Paris at the home of Queen Marie de Medici ? This good King being born in 1553. Was then 51 years old, and was assassinated on May 14, 1610 at the age of 57 years. Signed: Le Chevalier Accoiyer (?) (sic) "
