Moulded, carved and gilded wooden lounge furniture (chips and rework), decorated on the belt with a frieze of interlacing, rectangular connecting dice with knotted palmette, topped by arm brackets with acanthus leaves and cut ribbon, resting on fluted tapered legs with rudenture topped with asparagus, topped with a godroned ring. The rectangular cabriolet back with large fleurons at the corners, acanthus leaves and piaster friezes, with horizontal oval trim, pinnacle tops (accidents, missing and reinforced); comprising four armchairs and a flat-backed sofa. Stamped on an armchair by Jean-Baptiste Boulard, received master on April 17, 1755. Early Louis XVI period. Tapestry upholstery with small points (wear) Armchair : Height 76 cm - Width : 55 cm - Depth : 51cm Sofa : Height 87,5 cm - Width : 129 cm - Depth : 58 cm Provenance : Duchess of Richelieu Our salon furniture can be compared to a drawing by the ornamentalist Jean-Charles Delafosse, preserved in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Inv. 8440, showing several variants of the armchairs à la reine. In particular, we find similar legs, the frieze of interlacing in the belt and the frames of the back. Particularly innovative in their design, our chairs can be related to the furniture stamped Boulard and Bauve that was delivered for Marc-René de Voyer de Paulmy d'Argenson, marquis de Voyer, for the Grand Salon of the Chancellery of Orleans in Paris around 1765-1770, according to the drawings of Charles de Wailly. Jean-Baptiste Boulard became a master on April 17, 1755 and quickly acquired a great reputation with a rich private clientele, in particular the duke of Choiseul for the castle of Chanteloup, the marquis de Voyer, the duchess of Mazarin or the duke of Brissac, but also the royal duke of Penthièvre and the count of Artois. From 1775, he received orders from the Menus-Plaisirs and from 1778 became a supplier to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne for the various royal residences as well as for Queen Marie-Antoinette.
