JAPAN, Meiji period (1868-1912). Lacquer Suzuribako with silver and gold takamaki-e decoration of a bird twirling among chrysanthemums on a nashiji background. The reverse side of the lid is decorated with hiramaki-e of a flowing stream bordered by plants. The interior reveals six removable compartments and contains an ink stone, a mizuhire probably in shibuichi representing a bird as well as a paintbrush, a small knife and a small handle (minor missing). Height : 5 cm 5 cm - Width : 21 cm - Depth : 24,5 cm A rectangular covered nashiji lacquer box following the same model (small shocks on the edge, small wear).
