Bronze statuette representing Hercules standing holding a club in his right hand and carrying the remains of the Nemean lion stylized on his left arm (restoration to the left leg). Etruria, 5th-2nd century B.C. Height Height : 9,5 cm Cubic base of yellow marble from Siena. Provenance : Collection of Mr. Paul A. (1899-1976), former director of the chalcography of the Louvre, founder then president of the Presses Universitaires de France from 1934 to 1968. Noted "ach. 1951, small Herakles holding a pointed club, Etruscan art, 6th c. B.C." on a handwritten slip. Accompanied by a sworn statement from the collector's daughter-in-law confirming that the object came from her father-in-law's collection.
