Bronze group representing a doe and a fawn... - Lot 74 - Le Floc'h
Bronze group representing a doe and a fawn on a rectangular openwork base. Greece, Geometric period, 8th century B.C. Height Height : 10 cm Red marble base with white veins. Provenance : Collection of Mr. Paul A. (1899-1976), former director of the chalcography of the Louvre, founder then president of the Presses Universitaires de France from 1934 to 1968. Noted "ach. 1969, doe and her fawn, Greek art, geometric style, 8th c. B.C., aegis" on a handwritten card. Accompanied by a declaration on honor of the daughter-in-law of the collector confirming that the object comes from the collection of her father-in-law. This group was certainly a votive statuette. Groups of two animals, horse and calf or, as here, doe and fawn, are rare and were the preserve of the wealthy. The production of the geometric period is characterized by stylized forms, both in sculpture and in painting. Expert : Mister Antoine Tarantino, contact@galerietarantino.com, 06 15 44 68 46
