Bronze statuette representing the Gallic god Taranis naked bearded holding a thunderbolt in his right hand and the solar wheel in his left hand. Height. Height : 10,5 cm Gallo-Roman art, 1st-2nd century. Cubic base of yellow marble from Siena. Provenance : Collection of Mr Paul A. (1899-1976), former director of the chalcography of the Louvre, founder then president of the Presses Universitaires de France from 1934 to 1968. Noted "ach. 1951, the god Taran (Gallic Jupiter), Gallo-Roman art, 1st-2nd century" on a handwritten slip. Accompanied by a declaration on honor of the daughter-in-law of the collector confirming that the object comes from the collection of her father-in-law.
