Nicolas de LARGILLIERE (1656-1746). Portrait of François Carel (1663-1715). Oil on canvas (old restorations). Height 140 cm - Width : 106 cm Note: Son of Louis Carel, King's Secretary and Receiver of Finances in Paris, François Carel was King's Counselor at the Parliament of Metz in 1689 and of Paris in 1693. Our painting dates from this period, circa 1690. On August 17, 1700, François Carel married Madeleine Vauquelin, whose name he took when he bought the manor house and lands of Les Yveteaux from his father-in-law. We would like to thank Dominique Brême for his help in dating this work, which he will include in the forthcoming catalog raisonné. Provenance : - Château des Yveteaux, - Hôtel de Noirville, Falaise, collection of M. Léo, de Noirville until 1856, - Collection of M.
