Fragmentary standing naophore statue.
Basalt. Beautifully polished material. Visible lacunae. Egypt, 4th century B.C.
Height 14.5 cm - Depth: 11 cm
Width of naos without hands: 7 cm top - 8 cm bottom.
Note: The naos is flanked by the figure's two hands. Their orientation indicates the figure's standing position. The inscribed uprights of the naos mention the figure's wife ASETOURET and his daughter NEPHTHYS IITI. The interior of the naos depicts in relief the goddess KHOUIT of ATHRIBIS. The owner of this statue probably belonged to the local Athribis clergy.
Provenance :
- Daniel Arnaud (circa 1905-1980), test pilot engineer at Dassault Aviation and an avid aeronautical traveler in his own right.
The fragment was probably acquired during his many travels.
- Passed down in the family to Henri Paul Auguste Dreyer (1928-1978), a geophysical engineer with the Compagnie Générale de Géophysique, and then passed on by descent.
