Lithographed advertising poster for the play LE VIEUX MARCHE - Lot 44
Lithographed advertising poster for the play LE VIEUX MARCHEUR illustrated after Charles LEANDRE of a couple attending a firemen's parade, 1899. Imprimerie LEMERCIER (folds, wetness, yellowing, canvas). Circa 1900. Height 127.5 cm - Width 88.5 cm Note: The play "Le Vieux Marcheur", written by Henri Lavedan, was first performed at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris in 1899. This four-act comedy features an aging main character, Léonard, nicknamed the "Old Walker", who is a former seducer faced with the inexorable passage of time. The play met with some success at the time, thanks to the sharp pen of Lavedan, who was renowned for his social comedies and satires of late 19th-century Parisian society.
