Staff Officer's sword. Wooden spindle, checkered, blackened. Chased, gilded brass mount. Lightning bolt pommel. Single-branch hilt with comma-shaped keyboard, decorated with an antique-style warrior surrounded by military attributes, with two stars. Mounted with a diamond-shaped blade, leather scabbard with two brass fittings. With gold-plated Brigadier General's lanyard. Provenance General Tanant. EM (composite, oval fuse medallion missing, leather damaged and missing).
Tanant Albert Joseph (1869 - 1945) Ecole de Saint-Cyr 1888-1889, promotion Grand Triomphe, Ecole Supérieure de Guerre 1907 - 1911. When the war broke out in 1914, he was corps commander of the 29th Chasseurs Battalion, then appointed to the 3rd Army General Staff, and finally Chief of Staff. In 1918, he commanded the 33rd Division, following his appointment to the rank of Brigadier General. From 1919 to 1925, he commanded the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr. In 1925, he was appointed Major General. He retired to Saint-Dié in 1931, having been promoted to Grand-Officier de la Légion d'honneur. A member of the Croix-de-feu and the Centre Vosgien d'Action Républicaine, he is the author of numerous works.
