Jean-Pierre PINCEMIN (1898- 1997). - Lot 37
Jean-Pierre PINCEMIN (1898- 1997). Untitled, 1976. Gouache on paper laid down on canvas, signed and dated 1976 lower left. Height 18.5 cm - Width 15 cm Provenance : - Private collection, Belgium. - Galerie Applicat-Prazan, Paris. - Private collection, Paris. Note: self-taught, he first worked as a turner in the precision engineering industry before turning to art. Frequent visits to the Louvre awakened his passion for painting, leading him to explore various forms of artistic expression. In the mid-1960s, encouraged by gallery owner Jean Fournier, Jean- Pierre Pincemin produced his first works, oscillating between lyrical abstraction and action painting. From 1968 to 1973, he began working with collaged squares: the canvas is first dipped in a bath of paint, then cut and assembled into irregular square or rectangular geometric figures. In 1969, he and Claude Viallat co-organized an exhibition at the École spéciale d'architecture in Paris, bringing together artists who would later form the Supports / Surfaces group, which he joined in 1971.
