Pierre DMITIRIENKO (1925- 1974). "Les ensablés", 1972. Four watercolors on paper signed lower left in the same frame. Height 28.5 cm - Width: 21 cm each Provenance : - Private collection, Paris - Sale Perrin-Royere-Lajeunesse, Versailles, December 16, 2007, N° 117. - Private collection, Paris Exhibition: "Pierre Dmitrienko", Galerie Henry Bussière, Paris, 2002, reproduced in full color on page 29 of the exhibition catalog. Born of immigrant parents (Russian and Greek), he was raised in a Russian culture. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and working in the studio of Conrad Kickert, who introduced him to non-figurative art, he turned to abstraction. His work is characterized by abstract compositions in which color plays an essential role. In 1948, he was a member of the Mains éblouies group, which brought together a number of young abstract artists, and exhibited at the Maeght gallery. In 1953, he held his first solo exhibition in Paris at Lucien Durand's, which he repeated two more times. The "Ensablés" series is a group of works produced in the early 1970s. They testify to the artist's sensitivity to the conflicts of his time. In these paintings, Dmitrienko depicts faces eaten away by sand. The colors are often dark and earthy, evoking the dust, heat and aridity of the desert. These works are not portraits in the traditional sense. They are not intended to represent specific individuals, but rather to bear witness to the suffering and vulnerability of human beings in the face of violence and destruction. Faces are reduced to essentials, features barely sketched, as if the sand had erased all traces of individuality. Expertise by Mr. Irénée BRUN - 01 42 60 45 45 - brun.perazzone@gmail.com
