Pierre DMITIRIENKO (1925- 1974). - Lot 41
Pierre DMITIRIENKO (1925- 1974).
Composition, 1969.
Oil on canvas signed and dated 1969 on the back.
Height 33 cm - Width : 24 cm
Provenance: according to family tradition, a gift from the artist, a friend of the Family, through his daughter Ludmila Mickaël, a friend of Madame Gastellier.
Note: Born of immigrant parents (Russian and Greek), he was raised in a Russian culture. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and working in the studio of Conrad Kickert, who introduced him to non-figurative art, he turned to abstraction. His work is characterized by abstract compositions in which color plays an essential role.
In 1948, he was a member of the Mains éblouies group, which brought together a number of young abstract artists, and exhibited at the Maeght gallery. In 1953, he held his first solo exhibition in Paris at Lucien Durand, which he repeated two more times.
The "El Fuerte" series, created between 1967 and 1969, consists of portraits with eyes concealed under black blindfolds. A reflection on the conflicts of the time and the suffering they engendered, these works refer to the violence and brutality of war.
