Note: born in 1957 in Nantes, where he lives and works, Philippe Cognée is a contemporary French artist whose work explores themes of memory, erasure and disappearance.
His blurred wax canvases, heated then crushed, raise questions about the exhaustion of the image and the human condition in relation to the urban environment.
The artist draws inspiration from photos and videos of highways, buildings and aerial views.
His work questions the role of painting in a society where the image, under the effects of new technologies, is both omnipresent and impoverished (galerie Templon).
