Mid-19th century school, follower of Robert FLEURY. Lucrezia imploring Doge Foscari to forgive her husband. Oil on canvas (old restorations). Stamp DURAND RUEL on the back of the canvas. Height : 65 cm 65 cm - Width 56 cm Restoration-period stuccoed and gilded wood frame with canals, palmettes and twisted laurel leaves. Note: The scene depicted is certainly taken from Verdi's opera "I due Foscari", premiered in Rome in 1844. The action takes place in mid-15th-century Venice.
