White marble and bronze chased, gilded and patinated date clock. The central bollard enclosing the circular dial (accidental, removed as well as the movement) enamelled in white with Arabic numerals in black, indicating the hours, minutes and date, is surmounted by a cloud of putti. Flanked by two split leaves and a low relief of a putto playing a tambourine, it is framed by female musicians seated on a stool, one a triangle player and the other a trumpet player. Eight-footed quadrangular entablature with central projection, decorated with friezes of foliage and female busts, the projection adorned with reclining lions leaning on a drapery (slight wear to the gilding and minor missing parts).

François Rémond (circa 1747-1812) was one of the great gilders of the last quarter of the 18th century. Working mainly for the merchant Mercier Daguerre, he supplied clocks, lighting fixtures and bronzes to the great connoisseurs of the period. His work is distinguished by the quality of its chasing and gilding, as well as by its innovative design.
