[SILVER BINDING]. BALUZE (Étienne). Antonii Augustini Archiepiscopi Tarraconensis dialogorum libri duo de emendatione Gratiani. Paris, François Muguet, 1672. In-8, first edition with comments and notes by Baluze. Important binding with silver clasps, boards richly embossed with foliage and scrolls surrounding a central shield surmounted by a shell depicting a pinecone on the first board and Jacob's ladder on the second board, double twists on the spines, spine decorated with 5 faux-nerfs, the caissons decorated with foliage and a central fleuron on an amati background, covers decorated with a fleur-de-lys and underlined by a frieze at the tip, openwork clasps, letters "S.M.M" engraved at the top of the second plate, all edges gilt, green silk endpapers. Swan hallmarks and sphere and ship's rudder hallmarks (brought into service following a Napoleonic law in the early 19th century by the Venice Control Office). Venice, 19th century.
