Silver medal. (160.75 g; Ø 68 mm) Cuts on edge. Slight graffiti on obverse. Cleaned. Très beau/Superbe. King Louis XVIII's entry into Paris on May 3, 1814. This was the key event of the Restoration.
The king, holding an olive branch, was acclaimed by the city of Paris, which paid tribute to him with senators and soldiers. The ceremony took place in front of the statue of Henri IV on the Pont-Neuf, symbolizing the rebirth of the ancient French monarchy. Louis XVIII, who had been exiled during the French Revolution and the First Empire, regained power with the fall of Napoleon and continued to reign until 1824. His entry into Paris was a moment of celebration and rebirth for France, marking the king's return to his throne.
