*Henri-Dominique LACORDAIRE (1802-1861) Dominican friar, preacher and pedagogue. L.A.S., Paris 6 August 1848, to M. On his newspaper L'Ère Nouvelle, to a potential investor to whom he demonstrates the financial soundness of the publication and explains the conditions for acquiring shares: "We are currently in the process of establishing ownership of L'Ère Nouvelle on a legal basis, in order to be in a position, when the law on the periodical press, which will be discussed shortly, is promulgated. Ownership will be divided into a certain number of shares, half of which will be acquired by third parties with a preferential five percent interest prior to any payment of dividends. We shall find in these shares, God willing, the weak security that will have to be paid, and also a stronger base than we have, though it is much stronger..." He is confident in the number of renewals since July: "Far from losing, we have won and will win again every day, so that the figure of 3,555 subscribers we had on June 31 is now exceeded. In addition, we are selling 1,500 numbers in the streets of Paris, which is equivalent to at least 750 subscribers. Our total figure is thus 4600 obtained in less than four months, without any prior down payment other than a sum of ten thousand francs, received by subscription "...
