Pierre CHAPO (1927-1987), SELTZ editions. Suite... - Lot 145 - Le Floc'h
Pierre CHAPO (1927-1987), SELTZ editions. Suite of six chairs model " S24 " in oiled solid elm with banded back, the seat in natural leather resting on four straight legs. Height : 75,5 cm Height : 75,5 cm - Width : 41 cm Depth : 42,5 cm At the end of the 1940s, Pierre Chapo met a marine carpenter and fell in love with woodworking. He then decided to join the architecture workshop at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After his studies, Chapo travels through Scandinavia and the United States. In Arizona, he was struck by the creations of Frank Lloyd Wright. Upon his return, he created his studio in Clamart and the Chapo Gallery in Paris, where his modernist wooden furniture rubs shoulders with other designers such as Isamu Noguchi. In 1960, he participated in the Arts and Techniques of Crafts exhibition. He was awarded a gold medal. It was for his friend Dr. Hiroshi Nakajima that Pierre Chapo designed in 1967 the "S24" chair in oiled solid wood and leather stretched with rope braiding, thus combining minimalism, tradition and comforting warmth.
