Nicolas de LARGILLIERE (1656-1746). Portrait of François Carel (1663-1715). Oil on canvas (old restorations). Height : 140 cm. 140 cm - Width : 106 cm Note : Son of Louis Carel, counsellor and secretary to the King and receiver of finances in Paris, François Carel was a counsellor to the King at the Parliament of Metz in 1689 and of Paris in 1693. It is from this period, around 1690, that our painting dates. On August 17, 1700, François Carel married Madeleine Vauquelin, whose name he took when he bought the manor and the lands of Les Yveteaux from his father-in-law. We thank Dominique Brême for her help in dating this work. Provenance: - Château des Yveteaux ; - Hôtel de Noirville in Falaise, collection of M. Léo, de Noirville until 1856 ; - collection of M. Frédéric, baron de La Fresnaye ; - by descent to his son Fernand de La Fresnaye; - by descent to his son Paul de La Fresnaye; - by donation to his brother Jean de La Fresnaye.
