High-relief sculpted head of a moustachioed, bearded man, his hair composed of wavy locks falling to the top of his forehead and temples. The pupils of the eyes are perforated. Limestone (gaps and restorations). Eastern Roman art, late 2nd-3rd century. Height : 32 cm - Width : 23 cm - Depth : 30 cm Metal base from the 60s and 70s (sealed in the head). Provenance : - Purchased from Galerie Simone de Montbrison at the Biennale des antiquaires de Paris, circa 1963, as from Palmyra (according to a letter dated 2003) ; - Collection of Mr. Jean-Claude Fournier, veterinarian at L'Isle-Adam and head of the Ceramics department at the Musée Louis Senlecq, L'Isle-Adam; - Bequeathed to the current owner by two holograph wills dated 1995 and 2003, kept by the notary's office of Vincent ANNEBICQUE and Charles LEFEVRE until Monsieur Fournier's death in 2019.
