Eugène BABOULÈNE (1905-1994). "L'Almanare", 1979. Oil on canvas signed lower right, countersigned, titled and dated "2-1979" on the back. Height 50 cm - Width: 61.5 cm Bears on the back a label from Galerie Taménaga 18 avenue Matignon, Paris. Eugène Baboulène was born in Toulon on August 18, 1905, and is a French figurative painter and lithographer. He is the emblematic painter of Provence. He attended both the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulon and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. At first, he made his living as a decorator. In 1936, he was appointed Professor of Decoration at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulon. It was his encounters with the Catalan painters Antoni Clavé and Antoni Tàpies that led Baboulène to devote himself exclusively to painting. Affiliated with the contemporary Ecole Provençale, he was particularly fond of Provençal landscapes, as evidenced by the painting presented under lot 48 of this sale.
